Hellgate: London is a game that I had heard about, but never put any time into until now. It has a post-apocalyptic setting, cool monsters and it is all wrapped up in RPG style gameplay. It is easy to see why this game captured so many people’s attention.
London, But Not As You Know It
The setting for Hellgate: London is actually what grabbed my attention and made me want to play the game. It is set around 20 or so years in the future and London and the rest of the world has been decimated by the forces of Hell. Demons are running around London and you, a Knights Templar are trying your best to drive these fouls beasts back to Hell and to save mankind. I was so invested in the story, but it left me wanting more. I really feel that Hellgate: London would have benefited from a deeper story. I say this because the story that is here is so cool and interesting that it left me wanting more. I wanted to know more about this world!
Create Your Own Knight
As you would expect from an RPG, Hellgate: London has a pretty robust class and character system going on. You have six different classes to choose from. Each class has its own advantages and disadvantages along with skills and abilities that they can use. I found that the classes who were more fast-paced were the way to go. You can be a class that makes use of magic, bullets or even mechanical little creatures that will do your bidding!
It is not just choosing your class that you will have to do. Hellgate: London actually has a very deep character customization sweet where you can get very creative with how your character is going to look as you lay waste to the forces of hell.
I loved the combat in Hellgate: London! It is much more skill based than action based and I know for some people this kind of combat can get a little repetitive but did not think that it did. This is one of the most action heavy RPG games that I have played. You go from area to area, killing hordes of monsters as you do, looking for loot and items that you can use, craft with and of course sell.
Hellgate: London actually has this really interesting collectible rare items system. This is what you can use to help your character grow and I found it pretty easy to get to grips with and fun to use. Overall the combat is something that I feel you will either really love or get bored with. If you like your RPG games very action heavy then I assure you that you will have a lot of fun here.
Loot, Fight, Repeat!
I really had a blast picking up items and figuring out how to best make my character as powerful as possible. There is a bit of trial and error here, but I actually think that is part of the fun and when you come across an item or a new ability that can help you do some serious damage you really do feel like a total badass.
I think that Hellgate: London is a really fun game and I would say that if you are into games like Diablo and Destiny or other games that have a strong loot and action style of gameplay. You will have a great time with Hellgate: London. This is one game that is well worth checking out and I really like how action orientated it was right from the start.
