Game Overview
Good German humor has never left anyone indifferent, at least those who understand it. Bernd and the Mystery of Unteralterbach is a purely German humorous novel with mystical elements. The protagonist gets involved in a small-town affair and earns big trouble.
Work distracts from the manga
Bernd Lauert is a twenty-four-year-old worker who is forced to move to the provincial town of Unteralterbach, Bavaria. Life has not rewarded Bernd with industriousness or a high level of performance, so he tries to do as little as possible at work, and sit more in the world of anime and manga. However, either by chance or at the behest of his superiors, the hero investigates cases of sex crimes. Who is the culprit and why do events get weirder with each attempt at investigation ? Find out inside one big game-like reference.
Meme Bible
The thing is, the whole game is a big compilation of memes and local jokes of the German part of the internet. The main character himself and his name are the name of the users of the once popular internet forum krautchan.com. References to popular jokes from there can be found in the game locations. The game also has many references to real people:
- Alice Weißer - the heroine is taken from the German feminist and famous activist Alice Schwarzer.
- Jörgen Ziege is the head of the local police station, taken from the head of the federal police force, Jörg Ziercke.
- Til Geiger - Probably no one would have thought Til Schweiger would be an unpopular actor, but in Germany they seem to joke about it.
Can't understand without a dictionary
Many more examples can be found in the game itself. The entire plot is tied to jokes about pedophilia, pedophilia itself and famous personalities that somehow appear in strange situations. If you do not understand the words or expressions of the characters - learn the language already dead krautchan.com. Gameplay boils down to meme conversations with the same characters and trying to finally figure out what's going on in this damn town.
Visitors to an already dead forum decided to create a game filled with selected jokes from this very forum and references to German culture. To feel and understand the plot, you have to study all the references and stories, which are carefully found and explained by other people on the Internet. Do you want to investigate the town of Unteralterbach? Good luck and patience, my dear Bernd.
