Toejam & Earl
ToeJam and Earl, two ' totally righteous space dudes, are just tunin' out and cruisin' the galaxy. ToeJam wants to hang for awhile, so he gives the spaceship controls to his homey, Earl. Big mistake. In seconds, their cool craft is out of control and heading for a large blue and green planet (a.k.a. Earth). The ship crashes and is blown into ten pieces. Our boys escape okay, but are stuck here unless they can track down all the ship's pieces and put them back together.
ToeJam is a three-legged, hyper oddball with bulgy eyes. Earl is a cool, laid-back porker who goes with the flow. Together, they are a totally def duo that will crack you up.
Boppin' around Earth looking for their ship bits, ToeJam and Earl run into crazies out to turn them into space dust. Mothers wheeling babies try to run them over, pitchfork-toting cats try to poke our main men right in the asteroids, and drill-happy dentists love to make, not fill, cavities in aliens. And if the crazies infesting Earth aren't enough, tornadoes come along and carry ToeJam and Earl off to unknown places.
- TIP: Pizza, burgers, and sundaes energize the guys. But stuff like cabbage, spoiled cheese, and moldy bread saps their energy.
However, these space rappers aren't defenseless. They've got spring shoes for fast getaways, and they're mean shots with their automatic tomato launcher. They find unusual power-ups, like a rubber duckie for water travel, in gift-wrapped presents. And munching on junk food boosts their energy. Elevator transporter pods are the only access to the next levels. They change with each game, and so do the locations of the spaceship pieces and the terrain. You can opt to keep them constant if you're not into surprises.
ToeJam and Earl is a blast, both as a one- player or co-operative two-player adventure. The rap is outrageous, the music is jammin' and the options, obstacles, and wacked-out characters are a total gas. The no-repetitive action will keep you guessing with every push of the start button. This is the zaniest game that ever rocked Sega's Genesis system. Ya gotta check it out.
What happens when two hip rappin' aliens crash land on Earth? You can only find out in ToeJam & Earl. These two guys have to find the ten pieces of their spaceship, that have been scattered all over the game, to be able to return to their home planet. Sampled sound effects and humorous visual effects also add to the theme of this cart which tries to take the Genesis in a whole new direction.
Toe Jam and Earl is more of a testament to what the Genesis can do than a real game. The basis for the action, the duo's need to locate all the pieces of their ship, is really a window in which Sega throws some of the best graphics, sounds and music you'll ever see. Wears thin fast.
Master rapin' Toejam and his big homey, Earl, are really one truly intense duo dealing with spoofs, one liners, and and entire cast of silly characters (the boogie man being my favorite). Extremely long with some hilarious 16-bit add-ins highlight this truly funky and bodacious cart.
Toejam and Earl are two really funny characters complete with funny animations and loads of other humorous creatures out to get you. Although I enjoyed most of this cart, especially the wacky sound test, it was just a little too weak in the game play department. Aloha!
If you are waiting for a hilarious game for the Sega Genesis, this is it! The graphics are goofy, the tunes are undisputably the funkiest anywhere and the humor is out of this world! I recommend it for anyone who likes a good laugh. Yo, Earl, who's Trixie? No hedgehogs 'round here...
Here's how to get one extra life and fill up your energy at any time in the game.
Play until you get an inner tube, rocket skates or Icarus wings. Next fall back to Level One and open a present with any one of the three items.
Fly, skate or float to the bottom left corner of the screen to the island and fall through the center of the island. You will be at Level Zero. Now go to the lemonade stand and drink the lemonade, then go to the hot tub and jump in. It will fill up your life. Fall off the edge and you will be transported to the highest level you have been on during the game.
